On The Razzle by Tom Stoppard is a witty and action packed comedy about the adventures of two mischievous shop assistants who get themselves into trouble when they rush off to the city in search of a good time. Their employer is a rich grocery store owner who wants to marry a fashionable city lady. At the same time, he is struggling to stop his niece meeting her young lover. When Zangler leaves his shop in the charge of his two bumbling shop assistants the trouble (and the fun for the audience…) begins.
Peopled with larger than life, outrageously funny characters exchanging dialogue that crackles with wit and double entendre (oh, and the odd awful joke…) the sparks soon fly as everybody seeks to cover their tracks and keep out of trouble.
PROMENADE THEATRE: We are exploring a style of open air performance called promenade (or “walk around”) theatre. This means the different scenes in the play will be performed in different parts of the IST campus while the audience moves from one location to the other, led by the players. Part of the surprise is that the audience does not know where they will be led to next…
Seating is not provided! When attending the performances, each member of the audience needs to bring a light, portable camping stool or chair (or cushion for the ground) to carry with them from one location to another. Once the audience has settled in each location, the piece continues. Also, since it is a late afternoon / early evening outdoor performance, please remember sun screen and insect repellant!
